The Hornet Story
Sacramento State Men’s Rugby Club is one of the longest-standing and most competitive sport clubs at California State University, Sacramento. Since our club's founding in 1964, we have built a proud tradition of excellence both on and off the field. Competing in USA Rugby’s Division 1, the Hornets have consistently proven themselves as a powerhouse in the California Conference, highlighted by our recent 2023 D1AA National Championship victory.
Our program is built on brotherhood, resilience, and growth. We bring together students from all walks of life who share a passion for rugby and a commitment to represent Sacramento State with pride. Whether competing against top universities, hosting international touring sides, or giving back through campus and community service, we strive to embody the values of teamwork, discipline, and leadership.
Beyond competition, we provide a home for student-athletes to grow as leaders and individuals. Members gain opportunities to travel, network, and develop lifelong friendships while pushing themselves to new levels of athletic and personal achievement.
As we continue to grow, our mission is simple: elevate Sacramento Rugby to new heights on the field through championships, on campus through visibility and recognition, and in the community through outreach and service.
